Tonkawa school board members Wednesday night approved membership on the advisory board for Gifted and Talented for the 2021-22 school year.Members include parents Melissa Qualls, Krista Hembree and Karlie Sparks, administrators Kelly Martin and Kyle Simpson, counselors Monica Grein and Shaclair Garcia, SPED coordinator Kelli Klufa, district librarian Misty Bess, G&T Coordinator Angela Reyes and Superintendent Lori Simpson.The board also approved an agreement between Tonkawa Public Schools and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation for a skeet and trap shooting club. Dale Goodwin will be sponsor. The department provides $10,000 in guns and ammo to the district. There are ten enrolled so far but the class can accommodate up to 30.In other action, board members Casey McAninch, Jerry Hook, Brian Bowling and Nancy Appleman: (Cara Beth Johnson was absent)-- Approved $170,881.28 in expenditures with $168,407.27 from the general fund and $2,474.01 from the lunch fund.-- Superintendent Lori Simpson updated the board of current COVID-19 cases. She said there are 2 cases in the elementary school, one in the midhi and one in the high school. “We are doing really well so far this school year.” The board authorized her to apply for a $150,000 grant to test ten percent of the student population weekly.-- Approved the 2021-2022 estimate of needs. The district is expected to generate revenue topping $6 million with a carry-over of $1.014 million once back taxes are paid.-- Approved the 21-22 emergency medical service provision plan for the schools and the Tonkawa Fire Department.-- Approved the 21-22 days to hours calendar deregulation.-- Approved presentation of financial report for sanctioned booster clubs in the district.
