A special, free, patriotic concert will be held at the Ponca City High School Concert Hall on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 pm hosted by the Ponca City High School Alumni Hall of Fame Committee.This concert will feature the Po-Hi band, chorale, orchestra, and special guest, the 145th Army Band. The Oklahoma National Guard has a history that dates back to the early 20th century, with roots tracing back to the pre-statehood militias. The 145th Army Band, also known as “The Governor’s Own”, is a distinguished unit within the Oklahoma National Guard. The band provides music for military ceremonies, and also engages in public outreach, performing at various events throughout the state and beyond.The Po-Hi Music Department has a connection to the Army Band via Jason Salazar, who is a member of the 145th Army Band.“Being a apart of “The Governor’s Own” 145th Army Band for the past three years has been an incredibly fulfilling experience, combining both my passion for music and deep sense of duty,” said Salazar. “From the moment I joined, I felt a strong connection to both my fellow musicians and the mission of the Oklahoma National Guard.”Salazar is an oboe player, and enjoyed the opportunity to showcase his skills while also doubling on saxophone and other instruments as needed.“Performing at military ceremonies and community events has been particularly rewarding. It has been a privilege to play for those who serve and to see the impact our music has on both soldiers and the public. Whether it was a solemn tribute or a celebratory event, I learned how powerful music can be in lifting spirits and fostering connections,” said Salazar. “Being part of the 145th Army Band has not only enhanced my musical abilities but has also deepened my understanding of service. The dedication of my fellow band members, the honor of representing the National Guard, and the joy of connecting with our community have all left a lasting impression on me.”Music for the afternoon will include patriotic selections such as as “America the Beautiful”, “National Emblem Song”, “Band of Brothers”, and ”United States Armed Forces Medley”.“Salute To The Red, White & Blue” will feature the combined sounds of the Po-Hi Band, Orchestra and Chorale.
