Miss Jaylyn Burns Elected Secretary
Miss Jaylyn Burns, daugher of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Burns, 301 N. Main, was elected state secretary of the Sodality State federation at a meeting held Saturday in the Holy Trinity school at Okarche.
Resolutions and future plans were outlined at the session which was attended by sodalities from all over the state.
Charles Benke, Lawton, was chosen state president and Mary Kay O’Neill of El Reno, vice-president.
Attending the event from Tonkawa were Mary Caughlin, Patty Jueschke, Marie Swords, Tom Boykin, Eddie and Jim Ash, Jon Alton, Miss Burns, Mrs. John Jones and Father Elmer Robnett.
Also attending from this area was Linda O’Grady of Billings.
City Man Injured When Hoist Breaks
The condition of Jimmy Lauver was described as serious at press time today after he was injured in an accident at Atlas Tank and Steel company about 11 a.m.
Lauver, about 25 years of age, was crushed beneath an automobile on which he was working when a hoist broke. After first aid treatment, he was taken by McCafferty ambulance to Ponca City hospital where the extent of his injuries has not yet been determined.
THS Students Pass on Five Amendents
High school students of Tonkawa approved all five amendments to thier student constitution offered at a special election Wednesday. Eighty-four precent of the student body participated in the election.
Given the largest majority was Amendment No. 1 providing that the secretary of the student council be chosen by the same manner as the president and vice-president. It was carried with a 157-14 vote, an 11 to 1 majority.
Amendent No. 2 providing certain qualifications for members of the council carried with a 149-23 vote.
A four to one majority was given Amendment No. 3 setting qualifications on candidates for the offices of president, vice-president and secretary of the student council, 138 voting for and 32 voting against.
An amendment providing that candidates for the council’s top offices file for the office in advance of the election carried with a 143 to 22 vote, a six to one majority.
The fifth amendment setting eligibility requirements for members of the council was passed by the students with a 140-32 count.
Provisions of the new amendments will go into effect immediately and will be followed in the annual election of officers during the fourth quarter of school.
