The Kay County Retired Educators Association met on Wednesday, March 9, at Fraziers Restaurant. The meeting was led by KCREA President Cindy Watson.Guest speakers for the meeting were Jamie Phillips, Chief Executive Officer of Marland’s Place, and Madelin Newcomb, Family Specialist. The explained the rich history of the facility dating back to 1928 and how its purpose has changed over the years to meet the ever changing needs of our society. Its focus has remained the same, to improve the lives of children. It has served over 8,000 children since its beginning. Marland’s Place has transitioned to become a foster placement agency that includes foster families both on its campus and in private homes.Watson appointed a special committee to research the status and options going forward for the KCREA. In addition to Watson, other members included officers Nancy Niemann and Royce Caldron and general members Pat Lutz and Sandy Pendergraft.The KCREA is the local affiliate of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association. There are about 650 retired educators in Kay County.
