Tonkawa is gaining a new space for exercise and other goods with the anticipated opening of the Power Training Center, located at 105 S Main. Power TC will is a 5,842 square foot facility with a field on the side that will be home to the new business. Owners Bryan Kenney, the newest mens head wrestling coach for Northern Oklahoma College, and his wife Laura have been hard at work to get the facilities ready for the community. The idea for this business began in the Dallas area, where the family was previously located, during the pandemic to allow his wrestlers the opportunity to continue to train. Now, they are expanding that business to not only be an asset to the NOC wrestlers, but also be a career opportunity for themselves and a new gym for the people of Tonkawa. While this won’t be a gym that can be compared to the many 24 hour fitness facilities that are in the area, this will still be a great addition to Tonkawa. Power Training Center will be a facility where the community can be apart of fitness classes, personal training, private lessons, and so many more programs. Kenney was very excited for both the prospect of the community being so involved in this, but also the wrestling aspect.“I mean we’re really excited for this season and then obviously the gym will kind of be our regional training center, so we’ll be able to have high school kids and youth kids from the area. I’ll be able to bring in clinicians from out of state and that around the country to help do camps and clinics. This area is one of the only, from what I know, junior colleges that’s going to have their off campus training facility,” said Bryan Kenney. So far, they have received an incredibly warm welcome from all people of Tonkawa that they have met. Kenney spoke about their experience with the people at Christian Life Church and could not express just how appreciative he was of their help.“We went to Christian Life Church last weekend just to try out churches being new to the area and people of the church saw the U-Haul and I told them we were going to be moving the weight equipment in from storage. A bunch of people from the church, including the pastor, came and helped us move squat racks, weights, and bars.
