Hospice of North Central Oklahoma recognized their Volunteers with a special “Social Distancing” celebration on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. Hospice hosted a “Volunteer Appreciation Drive-by” at the Hospice of North Central Oklahoma office, 445 Fairview Avenue from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
“Each year, we thank our volunteers with a banquet. However, due to mandated social distancing, we had to think outside of the box this year”, stated Judy Bales, Volunteer Coordinator. Our volunteers are a very important part of our team. They do things like mailings, office work and patient visits. We also have volunteers that do haircuts, pet therapy, companionship visits and help with fundraising events.” Continued Bales.
“We love to take the time to recognize our volunteers and love on them. However, the restrictions that came, with COVID-19, has caused us to re-evaluate how we can do that. We currently have approximately 50 active volunteers, who are greatly missed and we look forward to the day that they can resume their volunteer duties!” stated Wendy Stobbe, CEO.
“With confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Kay County, we took steps to reduce the impact directly on our organization. The health and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers was a priority. However, while safety is paramount, we also remain absolutely committed to serve our patients and families”, stated Annette Hunt, CAO and Volunteer Director. “We were sad that we were unable to host our banquet this year, but our “Drive-by” was a great success. We had many volunteers participate and beautiful weather”, continued Hunt.
“Hospice of North Central Oklahoma is a locally owned non-profit. Our mission is to provide quality end-of-life care at to expense to the patient, while supporting their family and others in the community who are experiencing grief.” stated Stobbe.
