Creating luminous pendants, ornaments, tiles, bowls, night-lights and much more is the focus of Glass Fusing, a popular community enrichment class offered by Audrey Schmitz at Northern
Oklahoma College. Glass Fusing will meet on Thursday and Tuesday for four sessions in October in Creative Arts Building Room
110 from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Dates are Thursday, Oct. 17 and
24 and Tuesday, Oct. 22 and 29. No prior experience is required.
The class fee is $35, which does not include the cost of the glass.
“The price of the materials will vary with the project,” Schmitz said, “for example, a pendant or small ornament will start at $5.”
Attendees can choose to make one or more items during each session, and all materials will be available for purchase on site.
Along with learning the basics, there will be many opportunities to experiment with adding glass dots, confetti, stringer, mica, copper foil and nichrome wire to achieve one-of-a-kind works. Those with prior glass fusing experience will be able to tackle advanced projects if they choose. Glass Fusing is limited to ten students.
Because of the special nature of the class, pre-registration is required and walk-ins cannot be accommodated. NOC community enrichment classes are non-credit courses and have no grades, tests or attendance requirements. To register for Glass Fusing, call
580-628-6224 or visit the NOC Registrar’s Office in the Vineyard
Library-Administration Building. For more information about the class, contact Schmitz at 580-628-6670 or email Audrey.schmitz@noc.edu.
