City-wide garage sales Aug. 1
The annual Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce city-wide garage sales will be Saturday, Aug. 1. Fee will be $14 and includss city permit, Tonkawa ad and map and advertising.Forms are available at the chamber office or on page 5 of today’s issue of The News.
Elementary enrollment July 28
Tonkawa Elementary School will have enrollment for grades Kindergarten through fifth grade on July 28th from 8:00-6:00. We will be enrolling at the Tonkawa Event Center. New students will need to bring shot record, birth certificate, social security card and CDIB card if applicable. Pre-kindergarten students who did not enroll in June will need to come to this enrollment. Mid-high and high school students will be enrolling during this time period at the event center also. Due to Covid 19, we are asking that only one parent and no children come to enrollment. We will be following social distancing guidelines. The school year will begin on Thursday, August13th.
Full Moon concert Friday
The Stillwater band Slapout will perform at the free Full Moon Concert Friday, July 3 in Centennial Park, 301 East Grand in Tonkawa, and will serve as the band’s CD release party for their 2020 album, Redbud. The album features 13 songs, ten of which are original, with three interpretations of Oklahoma folk music and poetry. The group’s performance in Tonkawa in 2019 resulted in a new song, “Labyrinth,” and they will also debut another new tune on July 3, “Quarantine,” inspired by the 2020 SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
Lucky Duck Derby July 4th
The annual Lucky Duck Derby sponsored by the Tonkawa High School Alumni Association, who is partnering with the Tonkawa Masonic Lodge for this event, will be held on Saturday, July 4th, immediately following the parade downtown Tonkawa at the canal on West Grand Avenue just west of the Christian Church. The cost to adopt a duck for the Derby is $5.00 each or 5 ducks for $20.00. Proceeds go toward THS Senior scholarships and THS projects. You do not need to be present to win.
