(Published in the Tonkawa News, Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023)Kay County Commission Monday, November 6, 2023 Newkirk, Oklahoma The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) of Kay County, Oklahoma, met in regular session at 9:00 o’clock a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, the meeting was posted for public information on November 3, 2023, at 8:50 a.m. at the Commissioners Room, west entrance of the Kay County Administration Building in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and on the Kay County Website.Chairman Shane Jones called the meeting to order: Commissioners: Jason Shanks, Member, present; Jeff Kreger, Member, absent. Others present were as follows: Brian Hermanson, Kay County District Attorney (DA); Daniel Hesson, Emergency Management Director; Donna Parker, Oklahoma Court Services; Skylar Mathews and Paul Stokesberry, Kaw Nation; Claude Williams, Taxpayers for Transparency; Tammy Reese, Secretary/ Kay County Clerk.Chairman Shane Jones led the flag salute.Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Jones approving the regular meeting minutes of October 30, 2023. Motion carried: Jones, aye; Shanks, aye.Report given by Donna Parker, Oklahoma Court Services, presenting the number of community service hours defendants are working and the projects they are involved in: Ms. Parker reported the completed hours for October 2023 as follows: new community service clients-8, regular community service clients turned in for the month-32, sanction community service hours completed-232, total hours completed-886.80, and community service offender completions-4. Completed Events: Salvation Army- the clients assisted with putting items in the store; Humane Society- clients assisted with feeding and watering the animals; Top of OK Museum-clients assisted with cleaning, and moving furniture; Wheatheart Nutritionclients assisted with preparing meals; Habitat for Humanity-clients assisted with building the house and cleaning. Parkers said upcoming events will be held at New Life Trails, Habitat Restore, My Favorite Things, and Newkirk Schools where clients will help in various ways. Commissioner Shanks asked about the locations of the Habitat Restore, Parker said they are located in the Ponca City area.Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Jones approving Detention Transportation Claim for August 2023 in the amount of $2,556.67.
