Kay County Commission Monday, May 8, 2023 Newkirk, OklahomaThe Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) of Kay County, Oklahoma, met in regular session at 9:00 o’clock a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, the meeting was posted for public information on May 5, 2023, at 8:50 a.m. at the Commissioners Room, west entrance of the Kay County Administration Building in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and on the Kay County Website.Chairman Shane Jones called the meeting to order: Commissioners: Jason Shanks, Member, present; Jeff Kreger, Member, present. Others present were as follows: Brian Hermanson, Kay County District Attorney (DA); Dennis Bonewell, Emergency Management; Brenda Medlock, OSU Extension; Betty Hesselbring, Cindy Empting, and Jodie Ray with Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE); Everett Brazil; Claude Williams, Taxpayers for Transparency; Tammy Reese, Secretary/Kay County Clerk.Chairman Shane Jones led the flag salute. Motion was made by Kreger and seconded by Jones approving the regular meeting minutes of May 1, 2023. Motion carried: Kreger, aye; Jones, aye; Shanks, aye.No report was given by Donna Parker, Oklahoma Court Services, presenting the number of community service hours defendants are working and the projects they are involved in.Oklahoma Home and Community Education Week (OHCE): Brenda Medlock, OSU Extension, thanked the BOCC for considering the proclamation proclaiming OHCE Week; she said there are six (6) groups in Kay County. Medlock said the OHCE groups are very active with community service, honoring firemen and policemen, and holding educational workshops, and she added, they do a great service for Kay County. Medlock read the proclamation.Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Kreger approving a proclamation to proclaim the week of May 7-13, 2023, Oklahoma Home and Community Education Week (OHCE). Motion carried: Kreger, aye; Jones, aye; Shanks, aye.Road and Bridge Projects/Circuit Engineering District (CED) No. 8 Road and Bridge Projects: Commissioner Jones said crews dug out holes on Oakland Ave. and on Riverview Pl. and then filled them with asphalt, rock was hauled to a stockpile from Cedar Vale, hauled sand out of a ditch and off of a road on County Lane. Crews also worked in the shop and worked on building a sand shed at Shop #2.Commissioner Shanks said crews are blading roads, tearing out walls in the shop, and possibly will go and pick up a new grader.Commissioner Kreger said crews dug shale at the pit, hauled Sober rock and crusher to the yard, laid shale and rock on roads, graded ...
