(Published in the Tonkawa News, Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023)Kay County Commission Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023 Newkirk, OklahomaThe Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) of Kay County, Oklahoma, met in regular session at 9:00 o’clock a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the meeting was posted for public information on January 13, 2023, at 8:50 a.m. at the Commissioners Room, west entrance of the Kay County Administration Building in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and on the Kay County Website.Chairman Shane Jones called the meeting to order: Commissioners: Jason Shanks, Member, present. Others present were as follows: Brian Hermanson, Kay County District Attorney (DA); John Wilson, First Deputy Dist#3; Steve Kelley, Kay County Sheriff; Brenda Medlock and McKenzie York, OSU Extension; Dennis Bonewell, Emergency Management Director; Laura Pameticky, Kay County Health Department; Claude Williams, Taxpayers for Transparency; Tammy Reese, Secretary/ Kay County Clerk.Shane Jones led the flag salute.Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Jones approving the regular meeting minutes of January 9, 2023, and special meeting minutes of January 13, 2023. Motion carried: Jones, aye; Shanks, aye.OSU Extension December programs and activities: Brenda Medlock reported for Shannon Mallory; she said Mallory hosted a “Last Chance” Private Applicator CEU meeting on December 30, 2022, for private pesticide applicators needing their minimum of 6 CEUs before the end of the year. Medlock said Linda Williamson was recognized for receiving her Lifetime Gardner Award in the Master Gardener (MG) Organization. Also, the MG held their December meeting at the Cann Garden on December 1st where they shared their successes and failures in the garden.McKenzie York, OSU Extension said the Tonkawa 4-H Club conducted a Food Drive and donated the food to the Tonkawa Fish and Loaves Food Pantry this was held on December 12th. York told the Kay County 4-H participated with a float in the Blackwell, Newkirk, Tonkawa, and Ponca City Christmas Parades. She said their Christmas party was held on December 12th at the home of the Horinek’s.Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Jones approving an Application for Financial Assistance and Affidavit of Financial Inability to Pay.
