Kay County Commission Monday, May 18, 2020 Newkirk, Oklahoma
The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) of Kay County, Oklahoma, met in regular session at 9:00 o’clock a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020, the meeting was posted for public information on May 15, 2020, at 8:50 a.m. on the Courthouse front door, Commissioners Court, basement handicapped entrance of the Kay County Courthouse in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and Kay County Website.
Chairman John Wilson called the meeting to order. Those present were as follows: Jason Shanks, Member; Jack Godberson, Member; Brian Hermanson, District Attorney (DA); Steve Kelley, Kay County Sheriff; Brenda Medlock, OSU Extension; Dennis Bonewell, Kay County Emergency Management Director; Donna Parker, Oklahoma Court Services; Travis Harris, Kildare Fire Department; Claude Williams, Taxpayers for Transparency; Tammy Reese, Secretary/Kay County Clerk. Chairman Wilson led the flag salute.
Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Wilson approving regular meeting minutes of May 11, 2020. Motion carried: Godberson, aye; Wilson, aye; Shanks, aye.
Report given by Donna Parker, Oklahoma Court Services, presenting the number of community service hour’s defendants are working and the projects they were involved in for April 2020: New Community Service Clients-0, Regular Community Services Clients turned in for the month-9, Sanction Community Service hours compelted-10, Total hours completed-118, and Community Service Offender Completions-2
Ms. Parker mentioned it was difficult finding places for clients to assist because of the closings due to the COVID-19 situation. Completed Events: New Life Trails, My Favorite Things, Lake Ponca, Ponca City Charity Angels, and Habitat for Humanity where clients assisted with various types of cleaning, taking care of animals and repairing tricycles. Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Godberson approving/ acknowledging County Treasurer’s Summary of Collections April 2020 Monthly Report. Motion carried: Godberson, aye; Wilson, aye; Shanks, aye.
A request for public assistance with the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management for the COVID-19 disaster: Dennis Bonewell, Emergency Management Director, told Kay County can submit a request for a Federal Declaration COVD-19; he said $160,000 minimum spent is needed to qualify. Sheriff Kelley said the grant is good for two years so thought the county should submit a request for assistance. Kelley announced the Sheriff’s Department received $58,000.
