HISTORY WALK: Turn left to walk around the heart and read the history of Tonkawa from 1879-2007. The charcoal color symbolizes the oil heritage of the area.
LABYRINTH ENTRANCE: The golden path marks the entrance to the labyrinth.
PAUSING STONE: The cast iron Wheatheart serves as a pausing stone for a moment of reflection prior to walking the labyrinth path. (Art by Audrey Schmitz; casting by Tonkawa Foundry)
WALKING PATH: In this dual-path labyrinth you may begin the walk on either side of the pausing stone. The golden color represents agriculture while the narrow divider lines symbolize the blue of the Salt Fork River.
CROSSING: Halfway through the walk you will reach the crown-shaped crossing. This area recalls the historic Yellow Bull Crossing on the Salt Fork River. It features a diamond-shaped flint cut from the river site to serve as a jewel in the crown. Continue your journey on the opposite side of the crossing.
GOAL: After walking both sides of the labyrinth, you will pass the pausing stone and then complete your journey to the goal—the large red central heart. You may exit by reversing your path or you may walk directly out from the goal.
As you depart, you are invited to touch the wheat on the pausing stone to leave a bit of yourself with the labyrinth.
