New flags purchased through the THS Art flag project were placed on 562 veterans graves this past Memorial Day at the IOOF Cemetery. THS art students presented flags, totes, and a monetary gift to the Tonkawa American Legion the week before Memorial Day.
Students would like to thank people and businesses that made this project a success. Especially individual donors Evelyn Coyle, Gene Dougherty, Scott and Pam Leiding , Kassidy Williams, and Ronald Petit of Tonkawa, and Lynn and Pam Watson of Coolidge Arizona.
A large donation of $500.00 was received from Sharon Res-er Campbell of Houston Texas. She stated that both her parents are veterans and that her father was a long time member of the IOOF. She requested the money be used for flags and markers for veterans. This money was given directly to the IOOF for that purpose.
THS art purchased 500 new flags and a donation of 288 new flags was received from the former Tonkawa VFW for a total of 788 new grave flags.
The rest of the money $551.33 was donated to the Tonkawa American Legion for replacement of veteran markers and additional flags small and large as needed, as well as other projects such as Boys and Girls State.
