Kay County Assessor, Susan Keen and staff will meet with taxpayers for filing new 2020 Homestead Exemption and listing of personal property starting Tuesday, February 4th in the surrounding towns. The attached schedule gives the dates and locations of where the Assessor’s staff will be. Below is a brief description of the applications and all application deadlines are March 15th for the 2020 year. For additional information, contact the Assessor’s office.
Homestead Exemption saves an average of $90.00 on property tax. All new homeowners and residents, who have bought and moved into a different home by January 1, 2020, need to file for their homestead exemption by March 15. Applications received after March 15 will be applied to the 2021 tax roll.
Keen and her staff will be at the Tonkawa Public Library Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 .m.
Filing for Additional Homestead can double the tax savings. This exemption is for persons whose verified gross household income is less than $20,000 a year. Applications must be completed and received in our office by March 15. Applicants over 65 do not have to re-file each year. *
The Senior Valuation Limitation freezes assessed values until the property is sold, remodeled or no longer occupied. The gross income cannot exceed $55,400 for 2020. Applicants must be 65 with a verified gross household income of less than $55,400 for the preceding year. ACTUAL TAXES MAY CHANGE DUE TO BOND ISSUES BEING PASSED OR MILLAGE ADJUSTMENTS.
Homeowners are required by state law to notify the Assessor’s office if they have moved or are no longer eligible for exemptions.
An application for a refund of homestead property tax paid is available for persons whose annual income did not exceed $12,000. This form can be obtained in our office and sent to the Oklahoma Tax Commission on or before June 30 each year by the applicant.
Agriculture producers are eligible to file for a sales tax exemp-tion. Agriculture applications with a detail listing has been mailed at the first of year. Applications are either to be mailed back or declared in the Assessor’s office and forwarded to the Oklahoma
Tax Commission. Those with Agriculture Exempts only will need to continue to visit our office, when card is expiring that year.
