Tonkawa’s extension of the one-cent city sales tax for capital expenditures Tuesday, Feb. 11, was passed by a 60% majority.
The final vote was 196 in favor and 132 against.
The original sales tax issue was approved in 2001.
The City of Tonkawa has a 4.5% city sales tax with 1.5 cents to water, street, sewer and drainage; two cents for general government operations and the one cent for capital imnprovements.
This issue added language to allow it to be used for the construction, maintenance and operation of a municipal swimming pool.
