Automatic water meter readers will be installed in June city-wide, it was announced at the recent meeting of the mayor and city council.
An ordinance providing for the new automated system was among those adopted at the May 21 meeting of the council.

Mayor Ken Smith, Vice Mayor Glenn Cope and Councilmen Jack Evans and Scott Klufa were present for the meeting. Stacy Burns was absent.
In other action at the meeting, councilmen:
-- Adopted the 2019-20 budgets for the city general fund and Municipal Authority.
-- Adopted two ordinances amending the zoning code.
-- Adopted two ordinances concerning the new automated water meter system.
-- Voted to ask the county to authorize a four-way stop at the intersection of old Highway 60 (East North) and Highway 177 Blackwell Main. (Derby Y)
-- Approved a request from the Pride Committee for $6,000 to remove a structure at 506 N. 11th. Diemer Construction was the low bid on the removal.
-- Approved an invoice from River Ridge for $32,467.41 for the intersection at Main and Walker.
-- Approved the financial report. The city has $7,456,256 in total cash with $1,723,505 unrestricted and $5,822,752 restricted.
