What to do with the old swimming pool?That’s the quandary facing the Tonkawa mayor and city council.City officials are now collecting ideas of what to do with the old WPA pool on the Chikaskia River.Councilman Jack Evans offered up several including:-- Filling in the pool and making it a fenced in dog park.(Estimated at 2,000 yards)-- Getting the fill dirt from the old beach area just south of the pool bordering the river and opening up that area to the public once again as a river park. The city still has a boat ramp near there as well, he said.-- Installing 10 RV lots with power and sewer cnnections that could be rented out daily, weekly or monthly, using the old bath house as public restrooms and showers for the RV park.Councilman Stacy Burns recommended the city move the dog pound to the area and out of the flood zone where it is now located.If the public has any ideas, forward them to City Manager Kirk Henderson or Mayor Kenneth Smith.In other action at the Tuesday, Feb. 25 meeting of the group, city councilmen Evans, rick Allan, Ken Smith, Charles conaghan and Stacy Burns:-- Approved the monthly financial report. The city has $14,080,558 in total cash-- $4,491,682 unrestricted funds and $9,588.876 in restricted funds.-- Approved a pay requst from Carrothers construdtion co. LLC for the new aquatic center for $229,850.76.-- Approved budget amendments for the general fund, including the purchase of two police units from the Kansas Highway Patrol.-- Approved moving some of the city’s bank accounts with a large balance to the insured cash Sweep Management, an FDIC insured banking network available through First National Bank of Oklahoma.
