The Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce banquet this year will be held as an awards social and will be at the Tonkawa Hotel/casino outside on Friday, April 23, president Kramer Simpson announced this week.
On that date the chamber will recognize up to five award winners. Categories are Employee of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Lifetime service award, Tonkawa Pride and Business of the Year.
Forms for nominees are available at the chamber office, 102 E. Grand. They should be returned by March 31, 2021.
Explanations of the various awards follow:
Tonkawa Pride award -- A tonkawa area resident who has received state and/or national recognition in his or her field of endeavor -- such as art, education, politics, business, etc. thereby bringing honor to Tonkawa. This is a special award and does not have to be awarded annually.
Business of the year -- A Tonkawa area business that is engaged in community involvement through leadership, volunteerism and contributions, has received national or state recognition, and/or is a leader in their industry/field.
Employee of the year -- An employee of a Tonkawa business firm who, during the past year, has displayed a friendly attitude, pleasant personality and an untiring willingness to serve the public, thereby promoting the community.
Citizen of the year -- A Tonkawa area resident, who, during the past year, has provided a sevice which has greatly improved our community in areas of business, beautification, economy, education or culture.
Lifetime service award -- A Tonkawa area resident, who, during his/her lifetime, has devoted time and effort to promote the goals, ambitions and commerce of the city and has shown a sincere dedication and love for Tonkawa and its citizens.
