The Tonkawa Senior Class of 2020 had their hearts set on graduating May 16, 2020 at 11 a.m. As most everyone knows, adjustments had to be made due to Covid-19. The new tentative date for formal graduation is set for June 20, 2020 at 11a.m. Some seniors will be leaving before formal graduation takes place so parents would like to take this day, May 16, to honor all of the seniors. Although they will not graduate on this day, the senior parents would like the day to still be a memorable event for all.
The Tonkawa Senior Class of 2020 parents would like to invite the community to a Reverse Parade for Seniors on Saturday May 16, 2020 from 11 a.m.-12 noon in place of the original graduation. The event will take place downtown on Grand through the business blocks. The Class of 2020 will stand spread out amongst the parking spaces wearing their caps and gowns. “We would like to ask our amazing community to drive up and down the business blocks of Grand at their convenience during this time frame honking, waving, holding signs, and even throwing candy to them to show support. The city leaders and business owners have been gracious enough to help us pull this off,” one of the senior moms said.
“We encourage the community to send mail or drop off items such as a small note of inspiration, letter of encouragement, bible verse, card, graduation gift or any other form to honor all or some of your favorite seniors.” It never crossed any seniors’ mind when they walked out the doors of the high school the week before spring break that it would be the last day of their senior year. It has been a tough few months for these kids missing out on their final baseball season, track season, senior skip day, prom, award ceremonies, banquets, and most importantly high school graduation. So please, come and let’s have a great turnout, to show our seniors some love and support!! The event will go on rain or shine.
