Beth and Andrew Bierig were recognized as the Billings 2018
Citizens of the Year at the annual awards dinner, Saturday evening,
March 23rd. The theme for the program was “Volunteers-Beacons of Light”. The tables were beautifully decorated with black, gold, and red tablecloths and adorned with lighthouses, battery lighted lanterns of all shapes, sizes, and color, and small white vases holding yellow narcissus and jonquil flowers. The backdrop for the award presentation resembled a dark sky with yellow lights shining through and featured a lighthouse with its beacon shining brightly in the sky, surrounded by a shining lamppost and lighted hurricane lamps.
The program began with the welcome by Chamber of Commerce
President, Lewain Learned. Learned introduced special guests in attendance, State Senator Chuck Hall and Kay/Noble County District Attorney Brian Hermanson. Also introduced were representatives with Kay Electric Cooperative, J.D. Soulek and Cyndi Smith, and Billings Town Council members Pat Brand, Robert Hartz, and
Frances Moss. Kristin Williams sang the National Anthem and
Pastor Ruth Tipps gave the invocation blessing the program and the dinner. The dinner was a wonderfully abundant assortment of side dishes and desserts provided by those attending, including homemade rolls provided by Regina Sharp, and meat entrees prepared by Chamber Members.
Kristin Williams of Red Rock provided the wonderful entertainment for the evening. Kristin accompanied herself on the guitar and sang a wonderful variety of country and gospel songs much to the crowd’s enjoyment.
Following the entertainment, President Lewain Learned and
Vice-President Karen Culp read nomination summaries and presented Special Volunteer award certificates to Employee of the
Year-Scott Rademacher-Billings Postmaster, Business of the Year-First Bank and Trust Company, Billings Pride-Candy Oller. The
Lifetime Service Award was presented to Danny Ketts, who received a standing ovation for his many, many years of service to the Billings Chamber of Commerce and the Billings Community.
Following the Special Awards presentations, Kay Ranney, 1994
Citizen of the Year recipient, read the names of the past Citizen of the Year recipients and recognized those in attendance.
President Learned then presented the criteria and new nomination process for Citizen of the Year award and introduced nominees Beth and Andrew Bierig, Karen Culp, Terry Pool, and Harry
Warner. Past Citizen of the Year recipients Eileen Learned, Candy
Oller, and Lynn Wright read the nomination summaries for each nominee. President Learned announced Beth and Andrew Bierig as recipients of the 2018 Billings Citizen of the Year Award.
