Following recommendations from former campers, Arts Adventure Summer Camp announces new hours for the Arts Adventure 2019 Summer Camp set for July 22-26 at Northern Oklahoma College
Tonkawa.
“Arts in the Afternoon” will operate from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, allowing participants to pursue other activities or sleep later in the morning. The camp is open to students entering
Grades Six through Twelve this fall and to those who have graduated high school this spring.
Campers can choose from 22 offerings in visual arts, video production/computer graphics, vocal music, instrumental music, photography and creative writing. Most sessions are 90 minutes with a few, including leather art, video production and jazz improvisation, scheduled for three hours to allow students to develop extensive projects.
Students meet in large, air-conditioned studios and camp staff are always on hand to provide assistance and information. Classes are taught by area professional experts dedicated to mentoring young artists.
Board Game Design, new this year and taught by Justin Stier, is sure to attract campers interested in designing personal board games with their own characters, rules and the board itself. Marlys Cervantes will help students build a portfolio collection in Artistry through Poetic Forms and learn to explore a variety of ways to delve into their own thoughts and ideas in Journal Writing. Holly Peart introduces Vocal Jazz to the music offerings, teaching how to sing jazz standards and improvise scat solos.
“Make Time for Art” adult workshops are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening, July 23, in the NOC Creative Arts Building. Participants 18 years old or older may enroll in either Glass Fusion or Quilted Table Runner.
“Arts in the Afternoon” will conclude Friday evening with a gallery exhibition and performances in the Kinzer Performing Arts Center from 5:45 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Total cost for the Arts Adventure 2019 Summer Camp is $150 and includes a custom T-shirt inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, class supplies and daily snacks. Students will need to provide their own transportation. Group transportation from Ponca City to Tonkawa and back is available through
