This year marks the 30th anniversary of Arts Adventure Summer Camp. It began in 1991 and was held on the grounds of the Marland Mansion. In 2000, it moved to the campus of Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.
Arts Adventure is a 501(c)3 non-profit supported by the Oklahoma Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, North Central Oklahoma Arts Council, and numerous businesses, organizations, and individuals.
This year the camp will be held July 20-22 and will run from 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. each day. It is open to students going into 6th grade in the fall, through those who have just completed 12th grade. The camp offers students the opportunity to learn a variety of art forms from professional artists from NOC and from across the state. And end-of-camp Showcase will be presented, either virtually or outdoors, where students’ works will be displayed and performed.
Classes offered this year include: Poetry, Graphic Storytelling, Beginning Photography, Board Game Design, Cartooning, Computer Graphics, Video Production, Creatures and Critters Sculpture, Digital Escape Room, Drawing, Oil Painting, Watercolor and Gouache, Jewelry and Ornament Making, Leather Animal Masks, Vocal Exploration, Music Theater, Stage Combat, and Drum Circle.
The total cost of the camp is $100. A $25 registration fee is due by June 22nd, with the balance due July 6th. This includes instruction, all materials, a cool t-shirt based on famous artwork (past examples include Mona Lisa, Starry Night, The Wave, and an Escher design), snacks, and free transportation available from Ponca City, Newkirk, and Blackwell, provided by Cimarron Transit. And most importantly, scholarships are available.
