Candidates for municipal offices in Braman, Kaw City, Newkirk and Tonkawa, filed Declarations of Candidacy February 1-3, 2021. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Church of Christ and United Methodist Church in Tonkawa.
Two offices were open in Tonkawa presently held by Mayor Kenneth Smith (W2) and Vice Mayor Glenn Cope (W1). Both have filed and will seek re-election. Cope has drawn an opponent in former city councilman Charles Conaghan, 64, 904 East Grand Ave., Tonkawa. Smith will be unopposed.
Cheryl Howard, Secretary of the County Election Board, said Declarations of Candidacy were accepted at the County Election Board office in Newkirk for the indicated offices for each of the following municipalities:
Newkirk -- Mayor, 3-Year Term, Dereck Cassady, 51, 617 N. Walnut. Brian Hobbs, 43, 102 N. Walnut.
Tonkawa -- Councilmember Ward 1, 4-Year Term, Glenn M. cope, 75, 1410 E. North Ave. and Charles Conaghan, 64, 904 East Grand; Councilmember Ward 2, 4-Year Term, Kenneth Smith, 67, 302 North Main.
The municipal offices at stake in Newkirk and Tonkawa will be filled in the nonpartisan General Election scheduled Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
