Christmas, 2019
This newspaper wishes its readers and advertisers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
There’s much to be thankful for, as an American, in 2019.
At this time of year the fortunate traditionally extend a helping hand to the sick, disabled, poor and jobless. The hope is that no family in this community will go without a happy Christmas, whatever its religion, that no children in this community will lack a visit from Santa.
Christmas logically has become a universal holiday for all, of all colors, creeds and races. It is fittingly, an end-of-the-year observance of all the good and love exemplified by Jesus’ life and teaching, which all can admire.

It’s the most important Christian observance of the year -- holidays are legally and voluntarily observed throughout the western world. In most European countries the legal holiday lasts for days, perhaps a week.
The magic of Christmas for Americans relates to children and Santa Claus. Gifts, cards, special food, family reunions, memories, parties, all play a part, as do religious services.
Americans this Christmas can be thankful their country is at peace. If Jesus’ appeals -- peace on earth and good will to all -- are accepted, the killing everywhere in the world will end.
Love, charity to the needy and forgiveness, here at home, translate into a Merry Christmas!
