50 years ago, February 13, 1975New Sale Barn To Open For Business On Tuesday The public is invited to attend an open house of the Tonkawa Auction Center Sunday afternoon between 2:00 and 4:00 to inspect the new sale barn facilities which will open for business on Tuesday and hold its first hog and cattle auction.The new sale barn facilities are owned by Kay County Farm Center, Inc., a corporation in which four Tonkawa businessmen are the stockholders, Chuck Shultz, a partner in R & S Packing-Processing is the president; Carl R. True of True Grain, Inc. is vice president; Jack Walker, general manager of Tonkawa Auction Center, is secretary-treasurer and Eddie Hembree is the fourth stockholder.The sale barn is located a half mile east of I-35 on the north side of Fountain Road. It is located on 14 ½ acres of land purchased from Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie. The steel building, 50x100 feet, houses the sale ring, offices, snack bar, veterinary lab and rest rooms. Seating in the sales area is theatre type seats with room for 250 persons. The building is completely air conditioned. The sales ring floor is attached to the scales and the weight of the animals in the ring is registered on a digital readout above the auctioneers.Basketball RoyaltyFollowing coronation ceremonies Saturday night at the High school gym, Miss Marta Moorman was crowned Basketball Queen and Myron Davis, her escort was named Basketball King.
