Search Continues For Oldest Bonds In Tonkawa
Tonkawa bankers today announced that the U. S. Savings Bonds Treasure Hunt is still underway and will continue until April 23. Owners of Series E bonds with early issue dates are urged to present them at the bank for entry in the Treasure Hunt.
J. W. Boone and R. L. Crowder explained that the owner of the three bonds with the earliest issue dates will each receive a $25 bond.
The bonds may be taken to either bank and registered as to date of purchase, denomination and serial number. In the event winning bonds bear the same purchase date, the ones with lowest serial numbers shall be declared winners.
The names of winners also will be submitted to the State Savings Bonds committee for further recognition.
On May 1, ceremonies in Oklahoma City and other capital cities across the country will recognize the 20th anniversary of the Savings Bonds program. Since 1941, the First National and Bank of Commerce have served as issuing agents for the Treasury department for bonds. This service has been without cost to the government or bond purchasers.
