Brr! Spring Makes Quick Winter Turn
After the weekend young spring’s fancy lightly turned to thoughts of winter.
A cold front moved across northern Oklahoma Sunday night to bring a halt to balmy weekend weather and plunge temperatures to as low as 30 degrees Monday morning.
NOJC Men Split On Girl’s Haircuts
Males at Northern Oklahoma Junior college are evenly divided in their opinions on the length of girls’ hair, according to a recent survey taken by college reporters.
A poll of men students and faculty members showed six prefer short haircuts, six like long hair and seven don’t care as long as it looks nice.
Popular opinion holds that men prefer long hair and college reporters have even found occasions when couples have caused speaking at intervals because of the hair styles.
McCarter Wins Speech Event
Ted McCarter, Tonkawa high school senior, qualified for the state finals in discussion at a recent speech meet held at Tahlequah,
Jack Shaw, speech instructor, has announced.
Mary King had previously qualified for the state meet in humorous readings at a contest in Alva.
A number of local speech students competed in the Northeastern
Redman’s Forensic festival at Tahlequah.
McCarter was rated superior in discussion and was second in original oratory. Betty Klein was second with a superior rating in public address.
Dale Buck was ranked third in extemporaneous speaking with an excellent rating and fifth in men’s radio speaking with a good rating. In poetry Miles Mills got sixth with an excellent rating and
Janice Evans was ninth with excellent rating. Beverly Schatz participated in women’s radio and dramatic readings.
The debate team didn’t qualify for the elimination rounds and the high school’s one-act play ranked eighth, Shaw said.

Tulsa Man To Buy Service Bank of Tonkawa
John W. Wright, president and chairman of the board of Mercantile National Bank in Tulsa has contracted to purchase controlling interest in the Service Bank of Tonkawa and will resign from his Tulsa position when his successor is named, it was announced
Monday night at Tulsa. The announcement was made at the Mercantile bank’s monthly board meeting.
Wright announced he will become president and chairman of the board of the Service Bank and is also chairman of the board of the Pioneer National Bank at Ponca City. One of Mercantile
National Bank’s largest stockholders, he will remain on its board of directors.
