Bernice Horton Is Listed
On Faculty of Assemblies
A Tonkawa girl, currently pursuing a masters degree in religious education, will be on the faculty at this year’s Falls Creek Baptist assemblies near Davis.
Miss Bernice Horton, 28, was featured in the Tonkawa News last summer just prior to her enrollment in Southwestern Baptist Theological seminary, Fort Worth.
She has yet to fiulfill her desire to become a missionary but has already visited Hawaii, Japan, Hong Kong, the Phillippines, Singapore, Maylaya, Thailand, Burma, India, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany.
Miss Horton, a native of Perry, Okla., is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, Stillwater. She financed her trips overseas by “teaching school and saving my money.”
She has taught in public schools in California and Hawaii and in a Baptist school in hong Kong. She also was employed by two Baptist churches in Hong Kong.
3-Year Old Girl Joins Swim Class
A blonde curly head bobbing among the burr cuts of a boys swimming class this morning at Tonkawa’s municipal swimming pool drew the attention of the instructor, Sheri Scott, and climaxed a hunt by police and friends for a three-year old girl.
Brought from the pool by Miss Scott, pretty little Crystal Hudgins knew exactly where she was – it was everyone else that was lost. She just went swimming.
But for more than an hour her mother, Mrs. Wayne Hudgins, neighbors and police had combed the northwest part of the city looking for her. Police Chief Jim Morgan returned her to her home at 623 N. Ninth – only 10 blocks away from the pool.
And, that isn’t too far to go swimming on a hot day.

City Sales Tax Check Increased Over June 1969
Local sales tax revenue distributed by the Oklahoma Tax Commission showed a 7.1% increase over the same month a year ago, commission chairman Clarence DeWees reported.
Local sales tax returned to the city of Tonkawa in June was $3,426.00 as compared to $2,723.91 for the same month a year ago. The gain for the month was 20% over 1969.
Although 215 muncipalities shared in this month’s receipts the percentage gain was figured on only the 151 cities and towns that received payments in June of last year, DeWees said.
