Symphony Features Mullen as Soloist
Clarke Mullen, former Tonkawa boy who will appear in a piano concert here Tuesday evening, will be the featured soloist with the Oklahoma City Symphony orchestra in several radio broadcasts scheduled for the group.
The broadcasts of Sunday’s concert of the orchestra, under the direction of Guy Frazier Harrison, will be heard at 8:05 p.m. March 27 on KTOK, Oklahoma City; April 3 on Mutual network’s Voice of America; and at 11:05 p.m. July 24 on WNYC, New York City.
Mullen’s Tonkawa concert is under the auspices of the Delphi Study club and will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Wilkin auditorium.
18 Acts Qualify For Final Round Of Hamateur
Eighteen more acts Saturday night joined a like number from the opening night of the Hamateur Revue, held March 12, as the preliminaries were completed.
Winners of the second night of first-round competition were: Junior division - Linda Lou Herbert, Breckenridge; Kathy McCart and Gary Foster, Pond Creek; the Med Caps, Tonkawa; The Hen-Pecked Henrys, Lamont; Micki Lewis and Cheryl Gautier, Lamont; Cheryl Breckenridge and Anita Raye Sills, Ponc Creek and Open division - Myra Walker, Newkirk; The Dancing Silhouettes, Enid; Jessica Heinze, Ponca City; The Ball Sisters, Derby, Kans.; Adrial Jones, Newkirk; Jimmy Bulard, Arkansas City; Charlette Chandler, Tonkawa; Modern Choir, Tonkawa; Smith Brothers combo, Shilder; Bill McDaniel and Doylene Purdoen, Blackwell; Rozanne Hunter and Lorene Gardner, Woodward; and Dick Hall, Blackwell.
Open division finalists will compete for a total of $175 in cash prizes of $25, $15 and $15 when the finals of the contest are held here March 26.
The final round of the area’s largest amateur talent show will get underway at 7 p.m. in Wilkin auditorium with junior division competition scheduled to open the show. Judges will score the 12 finalists in the division for the prizes.
Open division competition will follow immediately with 24 acts vying for the top places.
Separate panels of judges, all out-of-towners, were used in the first two nights of the contest and still another panel will be used for the finals.
Peace Rose Garden Club Unit Hears Mrs. Brooks Discuss Growing Annuals
Mrs. Paul Brooks presented an informative discussion on growing annuals for the Fair as the program of the Friday morning coffee of the Peace Rose unit of the Tonkawa Garden club. Mrs. O. Merrell, assisted by Mrs. Harve Stewart, was hostess for the session.
