50 years ago, April 18, 1974Petunia Planting Day . . . Thursday, April 25 Thursday, April 25, has been designed as “Planting Day” for red and white petunias to be planted throughout the city in connection with the Community Improvement project designed to create civic pride and to beautify Tonkawa.The ‘Planting Pride With Petunias” project has been launched by the Delphi Study Club, in conjunction with Community Improvement program co-sponsored by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and Sears Roebuck and Co. The goal is to have red and white petunias blooming profusely in the downtown area and at all residences by early summer.Mrs. Paul Brooks, well-known Tonkawa horticulturist, will give planting instructions for the flowers.Proclamation Announces That It’s Rodeo Week!PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Oklahoma in General and Tonkawa Specifically, are proud of the Western Heritage, and WHEREAS, rodeoing is one of America’s leading and most demanding sports, and WHEREAS, the Annual NOC College Rodeo will be held in Tonkawa on April 18, 19 and 20, 1974, and WHEREAS, it is felt that all the people of Tonkawa like to be a part of the personally involved in that Rodeo, I, R. While at THS, she has served as a student council representative, listed on the principal’s honor roll and listed in “Who’s Who Among Students in American High Schools.”Williamson is the granddaughter of Rex and Maurine McSparrin of Tonkawa and Hershal and Francis Walker of Bay, Arkansas.
