50 years ago, April 11, 19746 THS Juniors Are Named Delegates To Boys StateSix Tonkawa High School junior boys have been named delegates by the Tonkawa American Legion Post 71 to attend Oklahoma Boys State, May 25-June 1 at Northeastern State college, Tahlequah, it was announced today. In addition three alternates were named.Named as delegates are Kevin Steichen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Steichen, 310 South First; John McIntyre, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. McIntyre, 1406 East Oklahoma; Curtis Muegge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Muegge, west of city; Gregg Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Davis, 596 Meadowlane; Riley Shaull, son of Buster Schaull, Fort Pierre, S.D. and Mrs. Iris Schaull, 1008 North Fifth and Frank Klufa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Klufa, 616 Meadow Lane.Alternates are David Gilbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gilbert, west of city; Kevin Frazier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Frazier, 116 West Grand and Darrell Barns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Barns, 606 North Seventh.The six boys that are being sent as delegates represent the largest group ever sent by the Tonkawa Legion post. A concentrated membership drive was conducted and Post membership is now 117, one of the highest in recent years. Normally only two boys are sent from Tonkawa but the increased membership of the post allowed additional boys to be sent. Also, new post commander is Mike Schatz, a Vietnam War veteran, which allows an additional boy from the local post.Each delegate is sponsored by a Tonkawa organization, with the American Legion Post assuming responsibility for all delegates. The sponsoring organizations are the Lions Club, First National Bank, American Legion, Jaycees, Kiwanis Club and Service Bank.M & D Burglarized, Three Suspects Arrested Police recovered $58 cash and a quantity of pills, reportedly taken in a burglary of M & D Rexall Drug store early Friday morning, when three Stillwater teenagers were arrested by Officer Frank Hall. He stopped the trio after he observed the west door window of the drug store had been broken out. The three, two 16 year-old youths and an 18 year old, were held here and transferred to the county jail at Newkirk on Saturday.A fourth youth, a 16-year-old, was picked up Saturday in Payne county on a warrant and taken to Newkirk.
