Tonkawa Jaycee president Larry Penn was named the outstanding Jaycee president in the northeast region Sunday at the Regional meeting at Blackwell. Tonkawa and Fairfax chapters were awarded plaques for being the outstanding chapters in the region.Tonkawa Jaycees placed well in the Key Man, Brownfield and Speak-up competition as follows: Key Man, Bill Jenkins, first, Dee Hall second, Dick Pearman, third; Brownfield, Gaylord Veach, first, Terry Vanlandingham, second; Open Speak Up Competition, Sonny Burns, first; Bill Jenkins, second; Novice Speak Up, Terry Vanlandingham, first.Tonkawa Jaycees and Jaynes present were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Penn, Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Burns, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jenkins, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Hall. Also Terry Vanlandingham and Dick Pearman. Following the meeting, five Jaycees made a visitation to the regional meeting at Alva, Bill Jenkins, Danny Burns, Sonny Burns, Gaylord Veach and Dick Peaman.Coach Is Pleased With Bucs Play Against Fairfax Coach Jim Minor was pleased with the Bucs’ game against Fairfax and felt the defensive team did a “fine job.” Minor said he thought sophomores Tom Allen and Steve McKnight both played well in the line on defense. He said guard Kirk Nesbit blocked real well on trap plays and opened some good holes on offense.The coach said on several occasions Klufa and Scott broke out in the open but were hauled down from behind by speedy Fairfax defensive backs. He said the blocking in the line, against larger opponents on occasion was real good.Quarterback Terry Ingmire worked all week at punting away from speedy safety Arthur Crosby and did his job well, Minor said. He termed Fairfax as a big, strong team.Halfback John Unruh’s point after kick was his first of the season and provided the winning margin for the Bucs.Minor said 24 Bucs got into the game. On offense, Gary Walcher and Curtis Muegge, ends; Bill Korn and Riley Shaull, tackles; Kirk Nesbit and Rusty Storm, guards; Kurt Kirtley, center; Terry Ingmire, quarterback; Pete Scott and John Unruh, halfbacks and Marvin Klufa, fullback. On defense Tom Allen, Dennis Ailey, Myron Davis, Jay Laramy, Steve McKnight and Kevin Steichen.
