65 years ago, July 5, 1954 Tonkawa Girl To Visit Rome
Miss Tamara Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Williams,
1514 East North avenue, and a senior student at Mt. Carmel Academy at Wichita, plans to attend the International Sodality Congress in Rome, Italy, Sept. 8.
Miss Wiliams will join Sodalists from all over the world to attend the meeting for the final drafting of the constitution and bylaws of the International Federation of Sodalities.
While in Rome, Miss Williams’ group will have an audience with the pope and will attend a special celebration in honor of Our
Lady Immaculate at the Piazza di Spagna.
Other places of interest to be visited by the group include Florence, Italy; Assisi, sanctuary of St. Francis; the Basilica of Our
Lady of the Angels and the Medici chapels.
From Italy the party will go to Switzerland and then to France, where they plan to stop at Lourdes, Poitiers, Chartres and Paris.
The return to New York will be Sept. 28.
Bank Assets Show $475,519.58 Gain
The assets of Tonkawa’s two banks at the end of the 1953-54 fiscal year which ended June 30 are nearly half a million dollars more than they were at the end of the last fiscal year, bank statements from the two showed today.
The First National Bank had total assets of $2,543,593.64 at the close of business on June 30, according to R. L. Crowder, cashier, which compares to $2,065,866.19 a year ago. This is a gain of $148,225.72. Total increase in assets in both banks is
$475,519.58.

Two City Students At NSC Earn Honor
Janet McAninch from Tonkawa has been named to the Presidents
Honor Roll at Northwestern State college for the Spring semester.
She posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Gayle Howeth, also from Tonkawa, was listed on the Dean’s Honor Roll for making a
3.5 or better average.
Top scholastic honors during the spring semester at Northwestern State college were won by 83 students who have been named to the President’s Honor Roll. The select group scored all A’s for grade averages of 4.0.
Carol Snow To President’s OSU Honor Roll
Carol Anne Snow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Snow, business senior at Oklahoma State university this past semester, is one of 343 named to the President’s Honor Roll.
Only those students making a 4.0 grade average, or straight A, while carrying at least 12 credit hours are selected for this honor at OSU.
