Junior Cornwell of Soledad, Calif., son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cornwell, 208 West Grand, Tonkawa, was recently elected president of the board of directors of the Soledad Hospital District. Cornwell was installed as a director as a result of a December election when three places on the board were filled. Five persons ran for three positions. He was serving his second term of office when he filed for re-election to the hospital board.Cornwell graduated from Tonkawa high school; attended Northern Oklahoma College, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. He has been a science teacher at Gonzales Union High school. Gonzales, since 1956, and two years ago, with a grant from the high school, returned to Oklahoma to attend Central State University and receive his Master’s Degree in Science Education.He served in World War II as an Army Air Force pilot and with an Army Medical Group during the Korean War.Open Meeting Thursday To Explain Bond Issue A city-wide open meeting for purposes of explaining the March 13 city bond issue will be held Thursday night at 7:30 at the High school auditorium, it was announced today by Mayor L. L. “Bus” Gravel.City officials, including members of the council, city manager Dale Fuller will be present. Also A. J. Haswell, Oklahoma City bond attorney and Bill Cochran, Oklahoma City bond man who will make presentations and answer questions.The election on March 13 will be for a proposed $625,000 revenue bond issue. It would provide money for installation of the surplus generating engine the city has received at no cost, except freight, from the federal government; an addition to the city power plant to house the engine and repair work to the city sewage disposal plant.It would also give trustees of the Tonkawa Public Works Authority permission to refund $225,000 in revenue bonds issued in 1970.The 2,500 KW Fairbanks-Morse dual fuel generating engine is presently stored under wraps outside the city power plant. To date, $70,000 has been spent in freight charges to get the engine dismantled and shipped to Tonkawa from Sugar Grove, West Virginia. Included are many spare parts and equipment included with the engine. A total of $78,000 of this issue would be used for repair work at the sewage and disposal plant.At the special election on December 19, one portion of the bond issue carried, a $200,000 general obligation issue ...
