50 years ago, January 18, 1973McIntyre’s 24 Points Lead Bucs To Victory In his best night of the season, sophomore John McIntyre hit 24 points to lead the Tonkawa Bucs to a 56-48 victory over Fairfax here Friday night. Junior Mike Yelton was the only other Buc to hit in double figures as he drilled in 12 points.The Bucs found themselves trailing 10-8 at the end of the first period but came back to claim a 22-15 half time advantage and had a 39-27 lead at the end of three quarters. The win avenged a loss to Fairfax on January 2 when the Red Devils rapped the Bucs with a 54-44 loss at Fairfax.B. Irons, with 18 points and H. Hollaway with 15 led the Fairfax scoring. The Bucs hit 24 fielders and 8-11 at the free throw line in the rugged physical game. McIntyre hit 10 fielders and 4 free throws. The Bucs hit 73 percent from the free throw line and Fairfax 6-15 for 10 percent. They now stand 5-3 for the season.Buc Girls Win, 43-37 Here Friday Over Fairfax Lisa Canaday hit 21 points and Vickie Shaull, 20 as the Tonkawa High school girls won a 45-37 victory over Fairfax here Friday night. The girls took a 11-9 first quarter lead and stretched it to 19-15 at half-time. In the third period they padded the lead to 3523 with 16 points and added more in the final frame. In the third quarter Shaull hit 8 points, Canaday 6 and Debbie Wilson two free throws.S. Bellows with 17 and M. Williams with 15, led Fairfax. Reta Martin scored two points for Tonkawa. Guards who saw action were Joyce Jared, Paula Humphries, Jeanie Richards and Marta Moorman.Kevin Steichen To Receive Coveted Eagle Scout BadgeKevin Steichen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Steichen, 310 South First, will be awarded his Eagle Scout Badge at the 101 Recognition Banquet at Maverick Cafeteria Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. Kevin is a sophomore at Tonkawa high school where he is a member of the National Honor Society, plays football and basketball, and is in the high school band.
