Tonkawa will be getting a new municipal pool in 2021, according to action recently taken by the mayor and city council recently.
City Manager Kirk Henderson said Tuesday the city is still awaiting a signed contract from the successful bidder, Carrothers Construction Company, LLC.
The bid accepted by the council at its Oct. 20 meeting was for $2,383,000.
“Once we get the contract signed, we’ll start exploring financing options,” Henderson said.
It will be paid out of the city’s penney sales tax for capital improvements. The city is looking at a 12 year payout with an interest rate of 2.15% or below.
Once options have been explored they will be brought back to the council for final approval.
The contract for the new pool passed by a 3-1 margin with Mayor Ken Smith and Councilmen Glenn Cope and Scott Klufa in favor and Jack Evans against. Stacy Burns was absent.
The three options for financing include: 1. pay for it in full; 2. finance a portion or all of it with a local bank or 3. finance a portion or all of it with a municipal finance service.
The city has $8.684,520 in cash with $2,991,480 unrestricted and $5,693,040 restricted.
The design of the new pool will be basically the same on as was used during the sales tax election. It wll be zero entry with a 99 foot figure eight slide, swim lanes and two diving boards in the deep end, as well as a bath house.
It will be installed in the general vicinity of where the tennis courts are presently located at Blinn Park and towards the west just north of the current splash pad.
