Cathey, Cremers Take Doubles Lead
Dale Cathey and Laddie Cremers took a commanding lead in the men’s ragtime bowling tourney currently being held on the local alleys, according to Marshall Cathey, tourney director.
Dale combined a series of 164, 177, 216 – 557 to go with his 148-pin handicap for a 695 total. Cremers added a 147, 165, 178 – 490 and 117 handicap for a 607 total. Their 1,302 series was good for first place at the conclusion of the opening day’s shooting.
Dale is also co-holder of second place, having teamed with Larry Mayes for a 1,231 series.
The tourney is open to all local bowlers and all are encouraged to enter. The highest league average as of April 1, 1961 is used. Bowlers desiring to enter may do so at the alley and may bowl any night on alleys not being used for league.
Mrs. C. E. Burr Receives
Appointment, as Delegate
Mrs. C. E. Burr, president of the PEO chapter here was appointed as a delegate to the supreme PEO convention next fall at the organization’s state convention held last week on the OSU campus, Stillwater.
Mrs. Burr will represent ten northern Oklahoma chapters at the convention, to be held next October in Washington, D. C.
Other members of Tonkawa’s chapter S who were in Stillwater for the state affair were Mrs. O. E. McKenzie, Mrs. R. B. Brining, Mrs. D. L. Mathews, Mrs. Hubert McIntyre, Mrs. F. R. Dorsett, Mrs. Parnell Bolick, Mrs. C. G. Olmstead, Mrs. Charley Cole, Mrs. Glenn Kreger, and Mrs. V. R. Easterling.
Present for a B. I. L. banquet on Tuesday evening were Dr. Mathews, Dr. Kreger, Mr. Brining, Mr. Dorsett and Mr. Burr.
Firemen Sponsor 3-Ring Circus in Tonkawa
Ward Zody, Tonkawa fire chief, announced this week the Tonkawa appearance of Sterling Brothers three-ring wild animal circus on May 6. Zody said the show would play both afternoon and evening performances under sponsorship of the local fire department, proceeds to go into the equipment fund.
The circus will be set up approximately one-half mile South of U.S. 177 with performances slated for 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
R. T. “Bob” Bullock, advance man for Sterling Brothers, said the show had just recently moved out of its winter quarters at Hugo. Twenty or more acts are promised for the Tonkawa appearance, including Woodcock’s performing baby elephants, Captain Pratt’s Paint Stallions in a drill and Liberty routine, aerial acts and ...
