Despite finishing in a tie for fourth place in District A-5 for 2023, six Tonkawa seniors got high marks from league coaches in all-district selections.Defensive end Dominic Grein received Defensive MVP honors. The other five got players of the year, as follows: -- Ryan Morgam, defensive back of the year -- Peyten Keith, outside linebacker of the year -- Dalton Pierce, defensive end of the year -- Isaiah Lively, Hybrid (can play anywhere needed defensively) player of the year -- Derek Strong, offensive tackle of the year. While these seniors missed the playoffs this year, they were in the third round in 2020 and 2021 and second round 2022. During their careers they won 34 games and lost 12, going 9-3 in 2020 and 2021, 10-2 n 2022 and 6-4 in 2023. They finished second all three years from 2020-2022 in district A-3 the first two years and district A-5 these past two. Two of the teams -- Hominy and Woodland -- made it all the way to the state semi-finals this season. Tonkawa held Hominy (13 points) and Woodland (14 points) to regular season lows.
