HESSTON, Kansas —The 4th ranked Northern Oklahoma College swept Hesston (KS) in a doubleheader Tuesday 6-3 and 18-1.
NOC (17-2) out hit the Larks 19-13 and had seven extra base hits to two for Hesston.
Sean Klein homered in Game 1 and doubled and tripled in Game 2. Bryant Bailey homered in Game 2 and had three hits and four runs batted in the two games.
Ben MacNaughton had four hits, three rbi’s and three stolen bases for NOC. MacNaughton has 17 stolen bases on the year.
Maverick pitchers allowed just four runs on 13 hits.
Zach Stephenson and AJ Moore picked up wins on the mound while Kirby Lohrengel earned a save.
“Game 1 was hard fought,” said coach Ryan Bay. “Hesston’s pitching kept us off balance for most of the game. Our hitters hung in there and finally gave us a little separation late. Bullpen had another really good day today. Those guys continue to be a strength for our club.”
The separation that Bay referred in Game 1 occurred in the 7th inning when a MacNaughton double led to a two-run 7th extending the lead from 4-3 to 6-3.
The Mavs bullpen allowed just two runs in nine innings.
