Birch: May 17. Elevation above normal, water 70s and murky. Crappie, striped bass hybrids and white bass good on in-line spinnerbait, jigs, minnows and spinnerbaits below the dam and around brush structure, coves, docks, shallows, shorelines and tailwater. Channel, blue and flathead catfish fair on cut bait and live bait below the dam, around coves, main lake, shorelines and standing timber. The lake is still flooded, so the docks are underwater and Birch Cove is still closed. Report submitted by Ryan Walker, game warden stationed in Osage County.
Carl Blackwell: May 20. Elevation above normal, water 70 and murky. Channel catfish good on chicken liver, cut bait, stink-bait and worms around riprap, shallows and shorelines. Crappie fair on minnows and tube jigs around the crappie dock. Striped bass hybrids fair on grubs, jigs and minnows below the dam and around spillway. Fishing success is changing day-to-day. Kaw: May 21. Elevation rising, water low 70s and muddy. Paddlefish good on snagging below the dam. White bass, striped bass, striped bass hybrids and walleye slow on cut bait, grubs, jigs, sassy shad and spinnerbaits below the dam. Blue, channel and flathead catfish good on cut bait, shad, sunfish and worms around flats, shallows and shorelines. The lake is on the extreme rise currently with the basin receiving over 10” of rain in 24 hours. The lake is expected to tie or exceed record levels of elevation and water release. Cat fisherman will continue to do good in flooded fields with worms and cut bait. Fishing below the dam will continue to be good especially for paddlefish. Use extreme caution around the water. Keystone: May 16. Elevation 25 ft. above normal, water muddy. Blue and channel catfish fair on worms around shorelines. Catfish was biting in flooded areas but starting to taper off.
