Unranked, once beaten Pawnee stunned unbeaten third ranked Tonkawa Friday night 34-13.“They rubbed it in our face and made us like it,” Buc Head Coach Mike Kirtley said, “cause they’re dang good.”Kirtley said the Black Bears are “just too big, strong and physical for us to handle. We ran every defense we had Friday night and still couldn’t slow them down.“Every time we thought we were back in the game, they ran a kick off back (Pawnee ran two back for scores right after Buc scoring drives, one for 91 and another for 85 yards) for a touchdown,” Kirtley said.Pawnee put two touchdowns on the board and took a 14-0 lead before the Bucs scored. After the first TD, Tonkawa drove from their own 33 to the Pawnee 24, where Ryan Morgan hit Cayden Duvall for a 16 yard pass and a first down at the Black Bear 8.No, wait a minute. There was apparently an infraction. The Bucs were flagged for holding. Instead of first and goal at the Pawnee 8, the Bucs faced a second and 22 from the Black Bear 34.Tonkawa eventually answered. Trailing 14-0 after drives by Pawnee of 95 yards in 11 plays and 67 yards in 8 plays, Ryan Morgan scored from two yards out late in the second quarter. It was the sixth play in a 55 yard drive that included a 15 yard run by Morgan and passes from Morgan to Cayden Duvall for 11 yards and Clayton Lopeman for 12.Alexander Fink toed the PAT kick and the Bucs were back in the game at 7-14. On the ensuing kickoff, Kolbe Novotny, Pawnee’s talented running back, took it to the house 85 yards later.As a result it was 22-7 at halftime. On the opening drive of the third quarter, the Bucs narrowed the lead once more, 13-22 with a one-yard Westyn Freeman pass catch from Morgan. The PAT kick failed.But for the second time, the ensuing kickoff led to another Novotny return for a touchdown, this time from 91 yards away.And suddenly, the Bucs were behind 13-28.Pawnee scored once more early in the fourth quarter to make it 34-13.The Black Bears held the Bucs and got the ball back with 5:52 left in the game, driving from the Buc 44.
