To have any chance at all of making the playoffs this year, the Tonkawa Bucs face a must-win situation at Chelsea. The Bucs go to Chelsea this Friday. Kick off is at 7 p.m. at Green Dragon Stadium. “They’re huge up front and physical,” Buc Head Coach Mike Kirtley said this week. “It’ll be our speed and quickness against their big and strong guys,” he said. Offensively, the Green Dragons run multiple spread formations. “Their quarterback throws the ball well and their running backs run well,” Kirtley said.“It’s a road trip for us, no school Friday and we gotta go to their place. That’s lots to overcome. Just ask Morrison,” Kirtley continued.Chelsea upset the Wildcats a month ago 24-18 and is one of their two wins on the season. Defensively, Chelsea will be in a four front behind their “big and strong” linemen, Kirtley said. Besides Morrison, Chelsea beat Caney Valley 52-15 the third game of their season. Losses have come vs. Nowata 16-20, Ketchum 13-28, Woodland 8-60, Chouteau 0-20, Hominy 6-49 and Pawnee 6-66.Tonkawa is 5-3 on the season and will be coming into town with a two-game league losing streak -- Morrison and Hominy. The Bucs lost to Hominy at hoe last Friday night 13-0. “Hominy is one of the best teams in Class A statewide,” Kirtley said. “Unfortunately, this league has two more just as good.”The Buc head coach said he was glad “we Buc’ed up and played hard. Now we can’t lose heart and go play the same way against Chelsea this week and Woodland next.”
