Tonkawa had drives to the Hominy 35, 16, 3, 8 and 18 -- all to no avail. The Bucs just couldn’t punch it in from there and the Hominy Bucks escaped with a 13-0 win at Buc Stadium Friday night.The Tonkawa defense was outstanding, holding the Bucks to two trips into the Tonkawa redzone. “All our guys pretty well emptied their tanks against Hominy,” Head Coach Mike Kirtley said of the effort.“I’m glad we Buc’ed up and played hard. I just wish we could have played the same way at Morrison a week earlier,” he said.Hominy, who remains unbeaten, was averaging nearly 50 points a ball game, was taken to the limit by Tonkawa.It was like every player, both playing and on the sidelines, were trying to emulate the effort being given and the example being set by two very special senior co-captains -- Ryan Morgan and Dominic Grein.No doubt Hominy knew they were in for the fight of their life. Especially when Ryan Morgan intercepted on the Bucks’ second offensive play of the game, then almost did it again on first down after Tonkawa was unable to move the ball and Morgan pinned the Bucks deep at their own six with one of three great no-return punts he made on the evening.The Bucks scored in the first and third quarters -- the first quarter TD a 94 yard drive in 7 plays and the second a 70 yard drive in 10 plays in the third period.Tonkawa had many, many chances in this ball game, but just couldn’t capitalize. Tonkawa drove from its own 37 to the Buck 35, but ended up giving the ball back at the 35 when a fourth and three ended with an incomplete pass.The two teams traded punts. Tonkawa then drove from its own 16 to the Hominy 16 only to be intercepted, the lone turnover of the evening for the Bucs. The big play in the drive was a 40 yard pass from quarterback Morgan to Cayden Duvall.Late in the third quarter, Hominy went up 13-0. On the ensuing kickoff, Clayton Lopeman returned the kick 23 yards. The Bucs drove from their own 28 to the Hominy 3, before turning the ball over on downs after two straight incomplete passes into the endzone.
