Roberta Gayle Walker
Roberta Gayle Walker of Dallas, Texas passed away on March 31, 2021 at her home at the age of 83.
She was born Roberta Gayle Humphries on Sept 16, 1937 in Tonkawa Oklahoma. She was the first born of Ralph Humphries and Zerhma (Martin) Humphries. She Married Bob Walker in the Tonkawa Bible church on Sept. 25 1956 and they had two sons, David Walker and Thomas Walker both of Dallas Texas.
She grew up on the family farm west of Tonkawa in a bend of the Salt Fork River, a place she dearly loved and still owned at the time of her death.
As a child she attended Cottage Hill County School and Fountain School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Tonkawa High School and attended Northern Oklahoma College. She worked at Wetmore’s while her husband was in the military over seas and for two years while he completed his college at Oklahoma State. Bob always referred to her as his G.I. Bill.
Roberta was a true farm girl, helping her dad do everything from raising a garden to gathering the cattle. As a result of her farm work, she became a very accomplished horse woman and spent much of her time in the saddle. She had a way with animals and knew how to calm a spooked horse very quickly.
But all her time wasn’t spent out doors. She became a wonderful cook and homemaker. Her guests always enjoyed being asked to come to dinner at the Walker household.
Roberta and Bob were baptized together at the Bethany Christian Church in Houston, Texas. In later years she became an accomplished bowler while in a championship league in Houston and carried a high average for many years.
Roberta and Bob traveled the world over and visited all fifty states and many foreign countries.
She is survived by her husband Bob, sons David and Thomas, Brother Frank Humphries and sister Karen Shepherd both of Tonkawa and by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Janis Chain.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
