Joe William Buffalow
Joe William Buffalow, age
90, of Tonkawa, Oklahoma passed away April 17, 2019 in
Ponca City, Oklahoma.
A celebration of his life was held on Tuesday April 23, 2019,
10:30 a.m. at the First United
Methodist Church - Tonkawa with Pastor Rob Harris officiating. Joe will be laid to rest at
Odd Fellows Cemetery following the service.
Joe was born on April 1, 1929 in Pond Creek, Oklahoma to
J.C. and Clara (Hobbs) Buffalow. He grew up in Pond Creek until the family moved at the age of 15. He graduated from
Billings High School before attending a vo-tech school in
Chicago, specializing in heating and air conditioning. Joe joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War.
While stationed in England, he met and married Joyce Adams.
They were married on September 16, 1950. In 1952, after separating from the Air Force, Joe opened his own business, Joe’s
Refrigeration. He owned the business for almost 40 years, retiring in 1991.
Joe was long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, Tonkawa, Lion’s
Club International, Veteran’s of Foreign War and the Ponca
City Bass Master’s Club. Joe also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He competed in multiple bass tournaments, traveling to
Mexico and Honduras. In 1969,
Joe won the Oklahoma State
Championship for Trap Shooting. He then placed 3rd in National Finals in Dayton, OH. He loved his kids and grandkids and loved his dog just as much.
Survivors include: children, Patricia Howard and her husband Ira of Ponca City, John Buffalow and his wife Renee of Milam, TX, Paula Ailey and companion Randy Coates of Tonkawa, OK; grandchildren, Tim Stricklin, Jason Stricklin, Jennilee Muns, Julie Howard, Dakota Ailey, Angela Buffalow, April Buffalow, multiple great-grandchildren; 2 great-greatgranchildren; brother, Don Buffalow and his wife Norma of Tonkawa, OK.
Preceding in death were his parents; grandchildren, Jeff Stricklin, Chad Ailey and sister, Lacerne Bloss.
Casket bearers will be John McIntyre, Vernon Young, Tony Faith, Jet Williamson, Jerry Younger and Tony Kodesh. Honorary casket bearers will be Ron Appleman, Rick Allen and Rex McSparrin.
