Guy L. Lyall
Guy L. Lyall went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Guy was born on September 11, 1937, in Mazie, Oklahoma to HC Lyall Sr. and Ila (Smith) Lyall. Guy attended Tonkawa schools for all 12 years. He graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1955, Northern Oklahoma Junior College in 1957, and Oklahoma Baptist University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Music Education. While at OBU, he served churches in Ponca City, Midwest City, and McCloud. He served in the Army Reserve for 6 years and served 6 months active duty at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
While serving the church in Wewoka, OK, he married Lois Pickard in Tonkawa on June 21, 1962. From Wewoka Guy and his bride moved to Okmulgee where he served at First Baptist Church. In Okmulgee both Guy and Lois’ daughters were born, Pam and Katie. In addition to serving in Wewoka and Okmulgee, Guy also served in Ardmore and Muskogee as Minister of Music, Youth and Education until 1981 when the family moved back to Tonkawa. During all his years as Minister of Music he took many, many high school students on life-changing mission trips to places like California, Texas, Philadelphia, New York, Washington D.C., just to name a few. On these trips, Guy showed the students how to share the love of Jesus with all they came in contact with.
Once back in Tonkawa, Guy opened a Farmers Insurance Agency. He was an agent for more than 20 years and won many awards for his sales.
Guy served as Kiwanis President in Tonkawa, Blackwell Regional Hospital Board member and the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, The Foundation Board, OBU Alumni Board and BGCCO Board.
He was a member of the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma since 1965 and served the group as President. As a member of this group, Guy and Lois were able to go on mission trips to Japan, China, Australia, Armenia, and Israel. They got to walk where Jesus walked the Via Dola Rosa, see Jesus’ tomb, and The Garden where Jesus spent much time.
Guy was a member of Ponca City First Baptist Church and Northeast Baptist Church choirs over the years before coming back to his original home church, First Baptist in Tonkawa, when it became difficult to sing.
Those left behind to cherish Guy’s memory are his wife of 62 years, Lois; daughters Pam and husband Doug Olbert of Ponca City, Katie and husband Don Stagner of Moore; as well as 4 grandchildren: Layla, Devon, Bashaier, and Austin. He also leaves behind 4 greatgrandchildren: Nour, Kyler, Salah, and Alivia, along with many nieces, nephews, and great life-long friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, HC and Ila Lyall; his mother and fatherin- law Clyde and Helen Pickard; brothers Harold Lyall Jr., JD (Cotton) Lyall, and Max Lyall; as well as sisters Geraldine Hurst and Veda Tull; and brother-in-law James “Jim” Pickard, and nephew, Phillip Pickard.
