GARVIN BYRON HERRING
Garvin Byron Herring, 96, of Tonkawa, OK, left this life on January 12, 2022. Viewing was at 9:00 AM, Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the Church of Christ in Tonkawa. A Funeral Ceremony followed at 10:00 AM, with Glenn Cope and Ron Walcher officiating. Face masks are highly recommended. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at IOOF Cemetery, Tonkawa. Garvin was born on February 16, 1925, in Cowlington, OK, to William Herbert and Ethel Laura (Biggs) Herring. After high school, he entered the United States Army and served in Italy and France during World War II. He married Billie Dean Colwell on December 22, 1945, in Spiro, OK. Garvin worked as a machinest/welder and retired from Smith Gruner in 1990 after 42 years. He was also a long-time member of the Church of Christ.
Most of all Garvin enjoyed time with family and friends at the Tonkawa Nutrition Center and his church. He enjoyed gardening. There was always something on the table from his garden. He loved keeping his lawn nice and staying fit by riding his bicycle 5 miles a day and lifting weights.
Garvin was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Reba, Howell, Lawson, Eugenia, Khiva, Morris and JB, who died as an infant.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Sandra McCoy, of Tulsa, OK, Romona Sheets and her husband, Joe, of Livingston, TX, Deanna Wright and her husband, Hugh, of Ponca City, OK; grandchildren, Chris McCoy Chad McCoy, Kurt Sheets, Marcie Miller, Rhea Elliott, Brian Bowling and Bo Bowling; great-grandchildren, Kelly McCoy, Elaina McCoy, Ian McCoy, Jettson McCoy, Bien McCoy, Allison McCoy, Lauren Miller, Logan Miller, Brandon Sheets, Madelyn Sheets, Alee Hunt, Rush Hunt, Korben Elliott, Michael Elliott, Brooklyn Bowling, Blakely Bowling and Baylor Bowling and great-great-grandchild, Riley McCoy.
