Dorothy Owen
Dorothy Owen, longtime resident of Tonkawa, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in Houston, TX. She was 91.
A service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 19th at the First Baptist Church in Tonkawa. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. A viewing was held on Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Trout Funeral Home of Tonkawa.
Dorothy LaVerne was born on November 10, 1930, the daughter of Ethel Mae (Clement) Clark and John Newton Clark in Texon, TX.
She graduated from High School in McClean, TX.
Dorothy married Edwin Owen on Oct. 4, 1946 at the First Baptist Church of Wellington, TX. They made their first home in Kellerville, TX and later lived in Denver City, TX, Oklahoma City, Chickasha and Tonkawa. The couple were blessed with two children; one daughter, Gail and one son, Mike.
Dorothy worked for the First National Bank of Oklahoma for many years. She enjoyed singing in the First Baptist Church Choir, was active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Delphi Study Group, Community Concerts, Order of the Eastern Star, and Handbell Choir.
Dorothy, “Mamaw” will be greatly missed but her family finds peace in knowing she is rejoicing in Heaven.
Family members include her daughter, Gail Assunto of Houston, TX; son, Mike Owen and wife Gaye of Tonkawa; brother J.N. Clark and wife Karen of Lafayette, Louisiana; sister, Kathryn Ann Mooney of Eden, TX ; grandchildren, Jeff Burton and wife Tammy of Norman, Lori Sheehan and husband Tim of Ohio, Julie Delco and husband Del of Houston, TX, Jeremy Owen and wife Annie of Tonkawa; Michelle Owen of Tonkawa, MatthewAssunto and wife Jessica from Houston, TX, and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, one sister, Wanda Mae Dillard and grandson Kyle Owen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the First Baptist Church of Tonkawa, 212 N. Main, Tonkawa, OK 74653.
Casket Bearers will be Jeff Burton, Tyler Burton, Jeremy Owen, Matthew Assunto, Del Delco and John Davis.
