Charles Theodore (Ted) McCarter 1936-2024
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ted McCarter of Indian Wells, California on Friday, October 11, 2024 at the age of 88 years.
Ted was born on October 10, 1936 in Enid, Oklahoma to Louis and Bertha McCarter. He grew up in Tonkawa, Oklahoma and loved playing high school sports.
He entered the University of Oklahoma in 1954 where he was a straight A student, majoring in Business.
Ted began his long and distinguished banking career at the First National Bank of Kansas City as an officer trainee. He worked there for 11 years before accepting an offer to join Baltimore Bank as President. Baltimore Bank later became Boatman’s Bank, which eventually merged with Bank of America. Upon retiring from banking, Ted became a successful entrepreneur and was an early investor in the Bank of Blue Valley in Kansas City. He and his business partner, Don Alexander, bought and sold many businesses over the years.
While living in Kansas City, Ted was active in the Kansas City Club, The University Club, and was VP and Treasurer of Mission Hills Country Club. He was also an active member of the Roaring Fork Club in Colorado, and La Quinta Country Club and the Reserve Club in California. He was an avid golfer and very proud of his 6 holes-in-one.
Ted served on the Board of Bankers Trust in Des Moines, Iowa for 10 years. He was a very active member of Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and the Chief Executives Organization (CEO) serving as International Vice President in 2006-- 2007. Ted was very active at the Reserve Club, which was his home, and served on the Board of Directors for 6 years as Vice President and Treasurer.
The McCarters have supported several charities including The Alzheimer’s Association, The Salvation Army, Wounded Warriors and are donors to Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage, California.
Ted was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Lamar McCarter and his parents, Louis and Bertha McCarter.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen, daughter Michele and her sons Hayden and Brandon, son Charlie and his wife, Kim and their children Trey, Maggie and Briggs and son Christopher and his wife Anastasia and their children True, Calli and Daphne. He will also be remembered by his brother, Louie and his wife, Janet and their children and his brother, Steve and his wife, Janet and their children.
Ted will also be remembered by many relatives and friends in Kansas City, Canada and Indian Wells where the McCarters have resided for the past 18 years.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the desert at a later date.
